Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a Sea Turtle Program on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 6-7 p.m. at the beachside pavilion on the day use side of the park.

Join Park Ranger Tony for a glimpse into the intricate world of sea turtles. Guests will learn about the sea turtles' life cycle as well as the species of turtles, their habitat, behavior, the important role they play in Florida’s ecosystem and how to protect them. Part of the program will be conducted on the beach, so please be sure to bring water, sunscreen and bug protection if necessary. Children must be accompanied at all times by an adult.

Family Fishing Clinic

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a “Family Introduction to Fishing” clinic on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m.

Bring the family to the park for a day of introductory fishing! The program will cover casting, bait, rigs, lures, knot tying and will follow the “catch-and-release” approach. Equipment and bait is provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Bring sunscreen, bug repellent and water. Lunch will be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own if preferred.

The cost of the program is $10 per family and proceeds benefit the Friends of Florida State Parks and Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area. Park entrance fees will also apply: $5.00 per carload of two to eight people, $4.00 for one person in a car and $2.00 per pedestrian or bicyclist.

Ranger Richard will teach the basics of crabbing and demonstrate how to nab that crab! Participants are encouraged to bring their own crabbing equipment and supplies. Crabbing nets are available for sale at the ranger station for $4.

Saltmarsh Kayak Tour with a Ranger

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host the “Secrets of the Saltmarsh” Kayak Tour on Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 9–11 a.m.

Join a ranger for this guided ride on the Intracoastal Waterway and a tour of the saltmarsh, which will last approximately two hours. Learn about the importance of this dynamic ecosystem while relaxing peacefully in one of the park’s new kayaks! Participants of all levels of experience are welcome and will receive a brief safety demonstration and an introduction to basic kayaking techniques and gear requirements. Bring sunscreen and bug repellent and dress appropriately for the weather.

Reservations are required. The cost of the tour is $25 per person and proceeds will benefit the Friends of Florida State Parks. There will be three double and four single kayaks available for the program, provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a full moon beach hike Monday, June 4, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Moonrise is set for 8:50 p.m.

Join Ranger Lauren and Ranger Tony for a beach hike! All ages welcome, minors must be accompanied by an adult. The hike will leave from the beachside day use pavilion. Please bring water, a flashlight and dress for the weather. Hike will be less than a mile long.

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a low tide bike ride on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Bring your bike, or rent one of ours, and join a ranger for a low tide bike ride! This Ranger led event features a 3 mile low tide bike ride and bird watch. Bring water, bicycle, snack, binoculars, and sunscreen. Riders should be prepared for weather conditions on the beach which could be influenced by heat, cold, wind and sand.

Reservations are not required but notification of participation is requested. Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a Second Saturday Gamble Jam on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Intracoastal Pavilion on the day use side of the park beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Jam out at the Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at the Second Saturday Jam Session in the park. Musicians of all skill levels are encouraged to bring instruments and a chair to join the circle for a casual, acoustic jam session. Instruments of all types are welcome; however, there is no power source near the pavilion.

Woodcarving Class with a Ranger

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a woodcarving skills class with a ranger on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.

Ranger Rob will instruct guests on the basics of woodcarving, techniques, types of wood and equipment needed. Participants will begin carving wood spirit walking sticks, or small wood samples of their choice. Ages 12 and up only and children under 16 must be accompanied by and adult. Participants should bring their own sharpened knives and wood or they can just watch!
